Maasai Education Initiative is a nonprofit 501c3 organization which operates in conjunction with SPHere, Inc. SPHere, founded in 1993, "seeks to support sustainable peace by empowering individuals and communities to improve health, education, and economic well-being." Cooperating with Osimlai Helpers and Paranae Primary School, MEI seeks to serve the youth of the Maasai community in the Kajiado District of rural Kenya. The Maasai continue a traditional lifestyle with great emphasis on family values and an emergent belief in the value of modern education, but the resources available in these remote areas are far from what is required if students are to go on to secondary school and beyond. When the primary goal of a society is survival, it is difficult to sustain schooling for children. In addition, we seek to support the dedicated teachers of these children as they search for resources and current educational materials.
