About MEI
Maasai Education Initiative is a non-profit organization whose mission began with a group of middle school choral students in Richmond, Virginia who felt that they had something to offer. . . their music. Their annual benefit concert, Music That Matters, was their vehicle. For the past ten years, they have presented a youth produced evening of music with the intention of reaching beyond the confines of their own personal glory. After a month in Kenya in 2009, their director, Janine Evans, shared her stories of a wonderful school and community in Maasailand and it became the focus of the year's benefit. From that evening has grown MEI, an effort which can expand the perimeters and enhance the work begun by these Richmond students. 'Children helping children' and 'teachers helping teachers' - such a simple premise to bring about such great change . . . TODAY! "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." Anne Frank
